Our Wednesday Evening Lenten Service is Canceled Due to Icy Conditions

Due to the icy weather conditions today, our Wednesday Night Lenten Service for tonight is cancelled for this week.

The scripture reading was to be from Jonah 3:1-4:

3 The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying, “Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.” So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days’ walk across. Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s walk. And he cried out, “Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”

The theme is that through Jonah being plunged into the waters and brought back up to new life God gave Jonah a second chance to follow his calling. Also, within our baptism we are taken under the waters and given new life. Through the sacraments of baptism and communion God perpetually gives us the opportunity to live life anew and always the second chance to follow the calling God has given us. God is a God of second chances. How much of a difference in life does that make?
